A long overdue update

This blogging thing takes some getting used to, but I hope to get back into the swing of things now that we have a few more "interesting" things going on in our lives besides work and being newlyweds. I figured the easiest and most interesting way to catch up on the past several months is through pictures.

In March, after months of Matt begging for a dog, I began looking on the Dumb Friend League (Denver-area shelter) website to get an idea of the kinds of dogs they frequently had up for adoption. We had intended to wait to adopt a dog as a birthday present for Matt in July, but two dogs stole my heart just from their pictures alone. Meeting them at the shelter sealed the deal.

Dandy is a 7-year-old, blind (since birth) black lab and her buddy is Corky, a 6-year-old golden retriever mix. They came as a bonded pair and have been a wonderful addition to our home! Corky is the responsible one of the two and is most often found right by our side or "protecting" Dandy. Dandy would rather be off playing fetch (Yes, she's quite talented for a blind dog!) or swimming, but also is quite the lover of snuggles and belly rubs.

Mid-June we escaped to Hawaii with Matt's family. It was my first time to Hawaii, and I did not leave disappointed!

We actually have a few pictures together from this trip thanks to family!

My sisters sent us a list of souvenirs they wanted from Hawaii...one of which was a hula dancer.
This is what they got!

Akaka Falls

Volcano National Park--lava flow

Kona coffee plant--coffee starts as cherries! Who would have thought!?

Matt's favorite stop on vacation--The Kona Brewery!

One final sunset

Okay, we are now finally caught up. Now, for perhaps the most exciting event of the summer......

We bought a house!

We will have more pictures and details to share as we move in Labor Day weekend!

Such a proud wife!

My husband's childhood artwork currently adorns our mantle and serves as our Halloween decor. My sisters have accused me for years that I will be a horrible mother that never display her children's artwork on the fridge or around the house because I hate clutter. Well, this should prove them wrong! :-)

In my free time...

One of my choir members invited me to go along with her to a sewing expo this past winter and one of my purchases was the pattern for this quilt. It took a weekend for me to piece, a week to baste, and about a month to finish the actual quilting.

Next up...a "boy" version of this pattern!

We had a visitor!

We had the privilege of providing a "vacation" for my sister after her recent graduation from college before she enters the "real world" of working in mid-September. She was a good sport in putting up with my work days and helping me get prepared for the music kick-off in a week. However, we need fit in a trip up to Red Rocks, the Coors brewery, and (my new favorite place to dream) IKEA.

Thanks for coming to visit, Christine!

Glenwood Springs Strawberry Festival

In the middle of June Matt and I traveled with his parents, sister, and grandparents to Glenwood Springs for their annual Strawberry Festival. We had a great time spending a weekend together exploring the town of Glenwood Springs and playing plenty of card games during the rainy hours of the weekend.

Waiting for the parade to start....oh, the anticipation and excitement! :-P

Matt's family's favorite part of the parade...Corgis!

My favorite part of the parade--Retriever puppies!

As always, there was a hearty showing of classic cars.

Following the parade there was plenty of free ice cream and strawberries for all to enjoy!
Yum!

Our Humble Abode

As promised, here are pictures of the apartment we currently call home. We are blessed to live in a quiet complex which is very close to Matt's work and only a short 10 minute drive to mine. Our apartment is a 2BR/2BA leaving us with a little room to spread out.

And now, the tour...

The main bathroom, which I call my own.

Our dining room

The kitchen (I can't wait to have a much larger kitchen someday!)

And pantry/storage

The view from our living room. Not too shabby!
